3-Day Dollar Store Pumpkin Make-Over

Day 2:  Pottery Barn Knock-Off Pumpkin

Today's Dollar Store pumpkin make-over is inspired by these Faux Burgundy Pumpkins from Pottery Barn.

Pottery Barn sells these pumpkins for about $34 each.  That's right, I said "each".

So, how did I transform this $1 pumpkin . . .

Into this?  It's easier than you might think.

Riding in to rescue our Fall decoration budget is this amazing product:  Rust-Oleum Hammered Paint and Primer in One.  I chose to work with the "brown" shade of paint for this project because it's a rich, deep brown that most closely resembles the finish on the Pottery Barn inspiration pumpkins.

This paint is amazing.  It only took two coats to completely cover the day-glo orange pumpkin underneath.  The paint creates its own texture to hide surface imperfections and has a deep, glossy, metallic shine.  I wouldn't recommend using any other spray paint to get this look.  You can find this paint at Lowe's for about $6.

For the final step, I ripped off that yucky stem nub and replaced it with this piece of bark from my back yard.  The whole project took less than an hour, including dragging out all of the supplies, setting up my painting area and drying time.

Have you found a craft product that exceeds your expectations for ease of use and end results?  Let us know in the comments below!  And don't forget to join me tomorrow for another easy and inexpensive Dollar Store pumpkin make-over.
